No traditional holiday is complete without its special unique dish. Take thanksgiving for example, if there’s no turkey on the dinner table, the holiday is considered incomplete. Similarly to every main holiday dish, there’s a special side dish or the filler as it’s known in some parts of the world. In most cases, this role is occupied by mashed potatoes.
The creamy, delicious butter-filled delight never fails to hit the spot. Like turkey, there’s another thanksgiving dish that is equally delicious and is easy to make. Yes, I’m talking about ham and gravy. Even if you’re a nub, you don’t need to worry, the recipe that I’ll be sharing with you today will definitely help you cook. Most of the people who have a hard time cooking meat and sauces is due to inexperience. Another key reason why they may face trouble is due to their inability to judge whether the meat is cooked through or not. To solve this issue, let me tell you a simple trick that will help you.
I’m sure you’ve heard this before. When you feel that the meat is cooked, take your index finger and press the meaty part of your hand. Then with the same finger, poke the meat. If it offers the same amount of resistance its means, it’s done. Remove the meat from the dish or pan and let it rest and after that, enjoy.
As far as the mash potatoes are concerned , I recommend that you use Yukon golds or Russet Potatoes or a combination of both for max goodness when using unsalted butter as it gives you the chance to taste and adjust.
